Shell Creek Lutheran

ELCA

In summer, Shell Creek Lutheran stands as a high focal point with a sweeping view of farm fields and western Dakota grasslands. In the silence of winter, Shell Creek Lutheran overlooks a blanket of white stretching to the far horizons.

It's a place of peace and tranquility where pioneers professed their faith, celebrated new life, gave thanks for the harvest, and laid their loved ones to rest.

Now, after more than 100 years, Shell Creek Lutheran continues its original mission, a symbol of inspiration to the community.

   Welcome to Shell Creek Lutheran

Shell Creek Lutheran Church was founded in 1906 by pioneers, mostly Norwegian emigrants who arrived to establish farms and families on the Dakota prairies.

Now, a century later, we take great pride in caring for Shell Creek Lutheran, an outstanding example of preservation among North Dakota's 2200 churches.

While our congregation is much smaller than the time when surrounding farms were numerous and populated, we remain active in worship and fellowship.

We welcome you to join us for Sunday worship in the beauty and quiet of the prairie countryside.

Shell Creek Cemetery

One of our 2006 centennial projects was to complete the cemetery records, organized both alphabetically and by year. A finished map of the cemetery hangs in the church dining room.

Markers for 21 unmarked graves in the cemetery were placed in time for the Centennial.
