- Pasta (spaghetti or fettuccine)
- Onion
- Pine nuts
- Garlic
- Canned crushed tomatoes
- Fresh flat-leaf parsley
- Fresh basil
- Parmesan cheese

Prepare pasta
|

14 to 16 oz pasta
|
|
Cook ALMOST to al dente in at least 4 quarts boiling, salted water
(follow package directions)

Prepare sauce
|

In sauté pan large enough to combine the cooked pasta with the sauce, fry until onions are softened (3-4 minutes)

- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion, chopped fine
|

Stir in and continue cooking until onions are golden but not browned (5-6 minutes)

- 1/2 to 3/4 cup (4-6 oz) pine nuts (see above)
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced or chopped
|

Stir in and cook gently 5-6 minutes, covered; stir occasionally
|
- 8-10 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- Salt and fresh ground black pepper

Stir in and turn off heat
|
- Palmful fresh parsley, chopped
- Palmful fresh basil, chopped

Drain the cooked pasta, then add it to the sauce in the pan and toss gently to coat the pasta.
If pasta seems dry, stir in a small amount of reserved pasta cooking water.
Transfer to serving bowl if desired.

- Sprinkle servings with fresh grated Parmesan cheese
